I have 2 Calico Ryukin goldfish...one of them has been on the bottom of the tank for about 2 months (since i moved them into a new tank) the other is on the bottom sometimes. from all my research i'm guessing they have swimbladder disease or constipation. the only way to help with that that i have read is to not feed them for a few days and wait for them to start swimming regularly before beginning feeding again in moderation...BUT after doing this the smaller of the two fish will still not eat anything. it was recommended that i feed them mushed up frozen peas after thawing or steaming them so that is what i tried. Any suggestions on food or fish medication to cure swimbladder disease or constipation that you can suggest? and how i can get the one fish to eat? Thanks!

Resting on the bottom of the tank doesn't always mean swim bladder disease. Do have an air pump or a power filter in the tank? Water circulation or movement will encourage the fish to move around more . If the water is stagnant then the fish can get lazy and just sit at the bottom of the tank most of the time.
If it's swim bladder disease, then feeding peas sometimes will help but it can be a hit and miss thing. Swim bladder disease often is incurable.
-You can continue to feed with peas or another high fibre food to see if it helps
-there's a product called Paragon II by Aquatronics that is supposed to help in the treatment of swim bladder disease although i don't have any experience with this medication.
-You can also try treating it with Melafix after every fourth day and aquarium salt everyday. Do a water change every four day also but not on the same day as putting in the Melafix medication.
Swim bladder disease can be caused by a deformed bladder, constipation , parasite infestation, or bacterial infections. The high fibre food will attempt to correct the constipation isssue while the medication will deal with any bacterial or parasitic infections.

Thank you for the reply. I had one filter running and added a second a couple weeks ago just in case that was the problem. I have tested the water a few times and ph etc. are all normal. I have recently cut down on water changes because I was afraid of causing them stress while they are sick but i will start doing it again every 4-5 days. I will try to find the medications you suggested.
