My filter just blew out. How long can goldfish live without a filter?

The filter has been on and off for two days and today it stopped and won't turn back on. But hopefully I can get one a the petstore.

Or if I can fix it how? It sort of just stopped.

try taking it to pieces , thoroughly cleaning it, and putting it back together.It might be a blockage

You could try seeing if the propeller inside can move freely. open the filter up and try to spin it with your fingers, as scrivens said it might be a blockage Smiley But older filters do sort of perish after a while so...

Have you checked the fuse in the plug? That might have blown out. If so you just need to buy replacement fuse simple and cheaper than a new filter.

I had forgotten to take out the carbon when Molly got stuck in the filter add I added Melafix.
