Pretty much anywhere. They are the most common "fancy". If you are in U.S. then Petsmart, Petco, Wal-mart. Although I would recommend checking out a smaller store or an aquarium store, they are usually more knowledgeble and take better care of their stock. Are you all set-up? What size tank do you have? Any other fish?

Many of the fantails you see at Petsmart are about the size of dime or nickel. These are still very young goldfish, probably at most 2 or 3 months old. You don't want anything younger , because tiny baby goldfish require a lot of care and very frequent feedings- just like newly born puppies, baby birds, etc..

I bought two very tiny fantails (about 1/4") from petsmart earlier this year. When I got them they were both an indistinct brownish-grey and have since dramatically changed color. They did require extra work as nabi said. You must either crush flakes, pellets and freeze-dried or buy special fry-food. I would reccomend getting them a bit larger than I did so you know what they'll look like and can check for deformities. And no matter how small they are they still need significant tank space and proper filtration.

You could put 4-5 fantails in there permanently. Fewer fish if you plan on getting something that grows larger (oranda) or a faster swimmer (comet). Post pics when you get them! Also ask your petsmart what day they get their shipment, go look on that day and there will be a much better selection. I just found a calico-telescope eye that had only been there a few hours!

If you are keeping just goldfish of the fancy variety, then you need to count 40 litres per fish.
So 55 gallons = 250 litres, so you could easily fit as Cheri stated 4-5 fish in there
Just a quick note it's also advised to keep fancy fish together and single tailed fish together. With mixing them, the single tailed fish are a lot faster and more competitive for food compared to fancy fish who are slower and single tailed fish may well eat the food before the fancies have time to get to it.
If you'd like to keep a pleco, then you will need to count some space for him as well, depending on the breed you get. As some types can grow enormous whereas others stay quite small.

There's no such thing as a bristlenose pleco, just for your info they're called simply Bristlenoses, in case you'd ever have to ask for advice or something about them in a shop
You could keep three-four of them with the goldfish, but the loaches won't work. You either keep a tropical tank with loaches and whatnot, or a coldwater tank with goldfish and bristlenoses. And that's it.
You could have four fantails (they are relatively small goldfish) and three bristlenoses or something in that tank, the bristlenoses will stay no bigger than 8-10 cm so they won't be a big load on the bio filter.
