Any advice please?
«

On Friday night (2 july) some of my fish engaged in chasing, which is nothing new they are at it a lot...It was a frenzy..On Saturday (3 July) the main instigator of the chasing stayed at the bottom of my tank, getting up occasionally to go to the top or to just have a quick move around..Today, Sunday (4 July) he is still on the bottom, havent seen him move around at all..The other fish go to him and give him a wee nudge but to no avail...Any ideas as to what I should do?...

This is about in the order I'd go in personally:
1. Check your water chemistry and pH. Sometimes high levels of chlorine or ammonia can make your fish act hyper.
2. Are there any marks on your fishie? Maybe he bumped himself. Aquarium (NOT table!) salt is good for injuries.
3. Is he eating? If he is, he's probably going to be okay. If not, try peas and see if that does anything.
4. Does he have any redness, sores, fuzzy spots, or look like he's been sprinkled with sugar? Melafix and Pimafix are good medications for illness.
5. He could just be tired. I think spawning season is mostly over, but our Spot was sluggish after doing the "mating chase". This sounds a little more serious, but I wanted to throw that out there.

Hi Nicole...
1. Ok will get Trev to do that...
2. Nope, no marks on him..
3. Yes he's still eating..Thought of peas but he's not floating to the top, or 'listing'
4. Nope no redness, in fact he looks just handsome..lol..
5. Yes I thought maybe he was tired cos as I said the chasing was a frenzy..He was chasing everyone..
And at the point of posting this reply to you, he is moving around now so will just wait and see if he drops to the bottom again..

If this is the case, the problem most likely lies in the water quality, so once you have that tested, you'll have the answer
A small water change might be good in that case.

Hope he's doing fine in the meantime, it could be that he was exhausted from chasing.
Did you aslo check the pH? As they dash arround too if this one is not right.
I am pleased that he is eating, keep us updated, please

Some fish are just sleepy. Spot takes naps sometimes, but that's just how he is.

It is not uncommon for fish to show signs of complete exhaustion after engaging in spawning behavior.

when my goldfish chase each other, they usually do end up sitting on the bottom of the tank for a while afterwards, and then they are OK. I don't think there is anything to worry about unless there is one female being chased by several males

Yeah, gee whiz, we need a rest too, after we were running one after the other, chasing and having fun with "pillow game" LOL
