My dear Hei Lan is not well. I haven't had her too terribly long, I'm thinking 2-3 months. She has always "slept" or at least been still much more than all my other fish. She spends hours during the day resting in the middle of the tank, head slightly down (no trouble swimming though). I thought this was just the way she was but now she is getting worse. She spends some time on the bottom. Occasionally her eyes appear clouded. She is also turning gold (from jet-black) but this is probably unrelated. Today she was worse than ever and didn't eat. I've moved her to a 20 gallon iso with cycled filter, melafix, salt, heater and started her on a mix of medicated food.
As far as the tank goes it is 125 gallons with seven fish, cycled 4 months. I change the water every day except friday ( I don't care that it is not necassary, it doesn't hurt anything and is my spring routine). I know cloudy eye can be related to diet. They eat gel food, live worms, freeze dried and vegtables every day. I even got some Hikari pellets thinking that maybe I was missing an obscure nutrient in their diet. No improvement. Is there anything else I can do? Should I get the vet over here?

Turning gold? I have heard of something called velvet related to gold colourings on fish... let me go check....

If she was slightly unwell, it's possible that she got sick due to lowered immunity? Do the symptoms match what your seeing Cheri?
Good call on the quarantine. Velvet is the only thing I can think of at the moment

Ah thanks for the clear up on the velvet Nossie  I had no idea black fish could turn golden!
