Apple snails

Does anyone know if apple snails give off pheromones? I am asking because I have two apple snails that were in my main tank but I had to take them out whilst I treated the tank for ich! Tonight when I tried to put Brian back in all of a sudden Flash went mad and started shoving Merle and when I took Brian out he stopped! My enquisatuve brain wonder if Brian was giving off some pheromone that Flash didn't like! Does anyone know if this is a possibility as they were all fine roughly 3 weeks ago!

My apple snails don't seem very happy at all! Their, well for want of a better word, eyes aren't straight like they normally are they are curled under. I don't know whats wrong with them! Does anyone here have experience with them? If you do, do you have any suggestions?
They were in my main tank
Ammonia 0
Chlorine 0
pH 6.8
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 25, I know this high and I am doing frequent 50% water changes to get it down!
I have taken them out of my main tank and put them in my QT tank whilst I get the nitrate levels down, in case this is what is upsetting them but it hasn't affected my plecs or my fish! Are apple snails more sensitive? Or is it something else upsetting them? Any ideas would be helpful!

snails are more sensitive as regards water-quality. Since they are not escaping the water, I shouldn't think that it is a water problem. What is your temperature like? If it gets too cold they will "dig-in" thinking winter is coming. How active are they when the lights are off?

They were both rather lively actually and moving around with the lights on and off! It's just that I noticed their 'eyes' were curled in instead of straight! They only do that when they aren't very happy!

Have the fish been bothering them at all?
