Food for Neon Tetras
« on: July 11, 2010, 07:32:03 AM »

What is the best food for Neon Tetras, as they are so tiny?

This may be a silly question, but CAN I feed them sometimes the same bloodworms Humphrey, Hepsiba, Skippy, Matilda and Sunshine are fed with?

Thanks for any advise  Smiley

You can feed them a variety of high quality tropical fish flakes, bloodworms, brine shrimp  , and daphnia .  If the tropical flakes are too big, you can break them into tiny pieces in your hand first before feeding it to  them.

Tetras are mostly carnivorous so the bloodworms you used for feeding your goldfish are just fine for feeding them too.

Avoid feeding them goldfish food (flakes) since it contains more vegetable matter and a higher fat content.

Flakes? Tropical fish flakes are the most obvious option d: And yes, like nabi says, they can eat a number of live foods as long as you're cutting the food a bit smaller for them Smiley There are special tropical fish flakes for carnivorous fish, and these flakes are usually red, you could try and check them out, they should be perfect for the tetras Wink

Got tiny pellets for tropical fish from the petshop today, suitable for Bettas and Tetras, etc.
Now, how much does a Betta eat per day? How often do you feed your Bettas per day? I gave him a small pinch this evo, perhaps about 7 pellets (granules) he ate them fairly quick

.... I'm searching the net like a mad man....

Found the answer:  5-7 pellets (granules) twice a day, 1-2 times a week (frozen) bloodworms. Aparently he loves bloodworms like the girl in the petshop said. Wink

Oh boy, good thing I checked this other part of the forum. We feed our neon tetras and danios goldfish flakes! Shocked
We were told by our local fish man that it's okay to feed them goldfish flakes.  Undecided

Pappy, short term I don't thing it harms but long term it is better to feed the food made for the different species as the percentage of added nutrients is a bit different.

I'd also get a variety of flakes, pellets, granules and frozen brine shrimp, live blackworms and frozen bloodworms... like us, we don't fancy having the same meal every day  Tongue , lol

Oh by the way we also feed them tropical flakes and freeze dried bloodworms.
About the goldfish flakes they love it, but it's best to feed them they're ideal food.

*This is a great info.* Wink

THX Grin

You'll do the right things, lol. In the petstores they should have a wide range of different frozen foods too.
This reminds me to get some shrimp cubes out and thaw them for our babies, lol Wink

My little neons go ape over the Aqueon tropical flakes (there was a $2 off coupon in my Aqueon 10 gallon tank kit and I bought the $3.50 size). I had some Omega One Veggie flakes that I feed my goldies on their vegetable days, and the neons just turned their little noses at it. My glofish love it as well.  It's so funny, I watch the hyper fish for a bit then look at the goldie tank, to see them moving at such a slow pace. I love all my fishies! Cheesy
