new owner ?

My daugher was given a goldfish that was won at a carnivale. What is the life span of a goldfish? Should I buy another one to keep it company? What is the best size tank for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Goldfish can live 20 years or longer with proper care and may very well outlive the house dog or cat. Some variety, such as the one you have that was won that the carnival, can grow to well over 12 inches in length.
Goldfish require about twenty gallons per fish, with another ten gallons for each additional fish. However if you lack space for a larger tank, you can start out with a ten gallon tank and upgrade later as the goldfish grow. It is healthier and less stressful for the goldfish to be kept alone than crowded into a small tank with other goldfish. Overcrowding can weaken the immune system of a goldfish and make it vulnerable to different diseases. Goldfish can produce a lot of wastes so a good water filtration system is required to keep it healthy.

my filter has the bit that blows air out just under the water surface. so half of the unit is under water.
