are you sometimes troubled by "unsightly fish poo" ?
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:44:16 AM »

Hi all, just thought I would share this little piece of equipment (see pic) I find useful on occasions when Im fussing about the tank or the little pooper's leave it where you can see it... its just a 20ml syringe (from the Chemist or Drug Store, whatever applicable) with a couple of pieces of old solid type of air tubing (from a very old undergravel type aquarium filter) its pieced together with some bits of flexible air tubing... you could probably use small irrigation tubing as well... I just poke it into the water near where the waste is and suck it up, I then discharge it into a small jar I keep nearby and then use it to water and fertilise my indoor plants... another thing I find the 20ml syringe is a little big to handle so maybe a 10ml might be better...
also I have this old medium size preserving jar that is really useful for topping up the tank etc or capturing fish if I need to move them, it holds abouit a litre of water and it has an opening that is over 3 inches wide and I have no probs encouraging most fish to go into it if I need to catch them. Cheers > Ron.

I like that idea!  We usually just use the net on debris.

Very nice! I don't know what I'd do without my syphon and turkey baster  Wink Fish poo probably is a nice substitute for compost material used for plants.  Tongue

cheers Nicole and Goldiegirl, yes it seems to perk the plants up a bit. A turkey baster, thats a good one as well... I had a thought that a lens blower like photographers use to blow dust off their lenses etc: could be adapted to work just as well (you can get big ones, see pic), you would need  to add some tube to give it more length and expel the air before putting it near the waste in the tank, then you would only have to release the bulb to suck it up... less work that way... thank you Nossie and Goldiegirl... It does look a bit crappy but its quick and easy to use ... I would have to say I wish I was that talented as to be an inventor, its more like monkey see, monkey find another use for it... ou ou ou...  Wink  I freelance as a digital designer (I should add when I have to) and I occasionally work for a commercial artist who's expertise is in creating 3d forms and sculptures, both are a lot about problem solving and creating and using the right tools to do a job... cheers > Ron.

None of us really buy our goldfish equipment for its looks, Ron, so I think you can be forgiven.  Roll Eyes Lol, for me it's more like monkey see, monkey use your ideas.  Tongue Jk, but wow you really should patent it.  Cheesy
