Background for goldfish.
« on: December 25, 2011, 02:26:03 PM » |

Hello! First post here! I am planning to get 6 goldfish for my tank, 2 white/red, 2 yellow and 2 red. Before I get the fish I need to prepare the tank and at this stage I am thinking about the background. I would really like the colors of the fish to really shine so I am wondering what color the background should have to enhance the red and yellow? Thanks in advance and I apologise for my english, not my native language

First of all, for 6 goldfish, you'll need a minimum of 60 gallons, preferably larger, especially if you're talking about single-tailed goldfish. Just making sure you are aware of this I have a plain colored blue background in my tank, it really bring out their colors, even the white ones glow BUT, the light is as important as the background. I have a bulb that enhances reds, blues and whites, so try looking for something like that. Yellow goldfish are also very rare, and can usually only be bought from breeders, but there's nothing wrong with planning, of course

Thank you for your answers!
Will probably go with a black background and dont worry, the aquarium is big enough. Its a 260 liter tank to keep them in while they are young and I have plans to upgrade to a larger tank aswell in the future.
Had no idea about the yellow ones, seen them just about everywhere around here! A shame if they dont stay yellow.

Ei saa peittää! only finnish I know Might get to pricey it seems. The Fx5 from fluval is for aquariums up to 1500 liters so I´m pretty sure that would work but its expensive and people say its noisy. Tank is in living room Anyhow the background will be black, going to buy some slimline or something and do something nice with it.

Nossie: I did not know that about yellow goldfish! Is this the filters you meant Nossie? ( Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)
Thought I'd link it There is a version without UV for a slightly cheaper price as well. I've been considering getting one for a while now! Also Welcome Switchkick. Jag heter Skwishee (The only swedish I really know XD Apart from Spindel!).

Switchkick, I was wondering what you finally decided on what to use for the background. I see that you said it would be black, good choice. Black works well for several reasons. I have a recommendation if you haven't done it yet. [image] Sprays on like spray paint, dries like rubber coating. This stuff is awesome. Tape up the tank, spray a few coats on the outside of the back glass and peel the masking tape off. Let it dry and set up your tank. It dries like a rubber coating and can be easily peeled off if you decide to remove it. You can see this guy peeling it off of a car emblem.

| It can also be used to make wood grain rims black. The stuff has a lot of uses. We also use it in the R/C hobby to waterproof stuff.
