Hi,
Does anyone keep bamboo in an aquarium?  Can you keep it in an aquarium, like under water or would it just rot? Or would you just keep the roots in water like for a betta vase/bowl?  I just do not know anything about this plant but have seen it at Petsmart and was curious if it is considered an aquarium plant. Thank you! Smiley

I think you are talking about 'lucky bamboo' or dracaena. It is  not actually a bamboo but rather a semi aquatic plant related to the lilly family.  The reason they are can grow in the betta vase thing is that the leaves  are above the water and only the stems and roots are submerged. The leaves will rot if you submerge the whole plant for an extended period of time , but you can probably put lucky bamboo in the aquarium if you can figure out a way to keep the leaves out of the water. Be sure you wash the plant thoroughly first to remove any unknown contaminants on it.

I don't think  'lucky bamboo' fits the definition of aquarium plant , because it's not truly aquatic.

hmmm.....I put some "lucky bamboo" in my tank about a week ago.....better keep my  Shocked on it!

These 'bamboo' are some of the hardiest plants i've ever seen. I have a small pot of these for about 4 years in a relatively  dark room without any soil or fertilizer. Sometimes i forget to water them , yet they seem to grow and grow and the leaves are always green.

We had some of that bamboo fully submerged in our aquarium, but the fish kept digging it up and charging into it in an attempt to bump it out with their noses, so we eventually took it out.

Well I bought some Bamboo and put it in a shot glass filled with glass pieces and then put it in my new betta bowl which is basically an oversized, huge brandy sniffer and then I put more glass pieces around it.  More than 3/4 of the plant sticks out of the glass.  I was told at the pet shop that it isn't a submergable aquarium plant. Anyway I think it looks really nice in the betta bowl. Cheesy
