best Treatment for Ick

My daughter received 3 black moors as a birthday gift.  I did not quarantine them long enough and the whole tank developed Ick(possibly Velvet).  They have sugar like crystals that first formed on their fins.  All are laying on the bottom.  The water quality is good.  They have been treated with Quick Cure and then Wardley Ick Out ( both Malachite green) for about a week with 25-50% water changes as the directions said.  Two died tonight( 1 new and 1 old fish).  The other fish are 7 1/2 years old.   What can I do to save the others?

Salt should work. First check the water quality after a water change. Remove all live plants and start adding salt to the water. One tablespoon per gallon of water every twelve hours until you'll reach a salt concentration of 0.3%. Use aquarium salt, or salt that doesn't contain iodine or any other added minerals! Keep the salt in the system for two weeks.
During the first days there may be more white spots on your fish as the skin reacts to the salt, but this is completely normal.
There are other chemicals to use as well, such as copper or formalin, but this would harm your plants and filter, and formalin would be very stressful for your fish as it can burn their fins.

Keep an eye on your fish for those two weeks and check the water quality frequently. If you do water changes (which you should) You have to add more salt to maintain the 0.3% concentration.

 Hi Suki,
The best way to cure ick is to:
1.  Suspend feeding
2.  Raise your tank temperature gradually over 48 hours to 85 F. degrees. 
3.  You can add salt  1 TBS. per 5 gallons of water.

The raised temperature speeds up the life cycle of ich.
Gradually lower the temperature when the spots are no longer visible amd resume your feeding schedule.
DO NOT use standard table salt. the aquarium salts on the market replicate more closely the naturally dissolved salts found in nature.  Table salts usually contain non-binding agents to keep salt from caking due to moisture.  These caking agents can be dangerous to your fish's health!

I've used something called Nox-ich. it turns the water blue but its super effective! Smiley also, adding aquarium salt never hurt anyone. Smiley

water change everyday sr, then sterile all(tank,submersible pump the filter) then add salt...
