Bigger tank + Moor
« on: April 07, 2010, 07:06:00 AM »

Yo! Uploading a few pictures of the new setup (:
I filled it up half-way with water from the cycled tank and the rest with fresh water. My fish are crazy about the new and awesome stream d: They were constantly swimming in the middle of it. And they seem to appreciate the new gravel and the small plants I bought (: the filter is rated 170l/h so I think it'll be better than the one in the orb. The air stone is pretty big, about five inches long and partly buried in the gravel, as you can see Cheesy
It's so great to see them this happy! Like a big weight has been lifted from my heart :'c

And let's not forget my new dude! Mr. Popo is his name, and he's currently spending some time in the orb with a salt bath (: I'll be getting some nice plants for him to play with as soon as the treatment is over Wink
About Mr. Popo, I got him a bit cheaper than the average black moor price because he has only one anal fin and his tail is pretty deeply forked. But I love him anyway! And I'll be taking good care of him (: He's so small <3 Like 1.5 inch <3
Gonna make sure that he gets lots of blood worms~

A question: Would it be st*pid to give Popo another Moor as a tank mate while they're so small?

Only two more months before I'll have my 200 liter tank!! D8

Lovely! Smiley
IMO I would hold off on buying more fish until you have your bigger tank set up.
Remember 3 fish in a 10 gallon tank is pushing it and the 1 in the orb is probably just right for now.
Besides you would want to quarantine any new fish before putting him with beautiful Mr. Popo.
I know it's hard to resist buying more, believe me I know! Wink
In a week or so you will see your new tank set up with the 3 fish start to cycle and it might be a month or so before it is finished.

Yep, I was thinking so (: I'd rather avoid having more nitrate problems there :C So for Popo I'll just get some nice plants (:
I'll be keeping an eye on the tank Wink They didn't have any ammonia tests in the pet shop last time o__o but I'll be doing regular water changes and as soon as the time comes I'll be looking for nitrites at least.
About how often would be it be good to change there? Does it need more than once a week while cycling through the ammonia?

You want to keep an eye on your ammonia and nitrite levels and really not do many or big water changes unless the parameters spike and go high.  Then if you do a water change I would only do 10% while cycling.  Just be patient and let it do it's thing.  Add beneficial bacteria once a week whether you do a water change or not.

Thank you! (: I'll be patient with it Wink I do enjoy watching my babies as it is now, so I think any new fish would be a later concern (:

By the way, lately I noticed that my poor little Popo tends to bump into the bubble pipe or the bigger rocks in the tank sometimes :'D He's so cute <3 I didn't notice that the telescopes ever did that when we had them before!

With their altered eyes they do not see well.  When you have him with your normal eyed fantails, you wil have to make sure he gets his share of food.  They are so cute but altering anything genetically always has it's consequences. Wink

Yep, I know Wink I'll be keeping an eye on him (: But my other three fishes are quite modest when eating, they're eating rather slowly, for some strange reason, so I think it should be okay (:

Hello happy goldfish!  Fantails, right?  Or moors?  That yellow one is the same color as my Sunshine. Smiley  I do like the orange one as well.

Yes, three sweet fantails and one moor (: I'll be getting another moor as soon as I'll have a bigger tank Wink
Actually, the "yellow" one was white when I bought her, but a diet of color enhancing food (with carotene) has given her a bit yellow nose Wink The orange one is so beautiful in person! He's almost glowing red in the light, and his fins have some white spots on them <3

Hi girls,
I found some info about the fish eye sight, if you are interested I put sth together and post it. This will also explain by itself why telescopes cannot see that well.

Nossie, How are your fishies, still eating modest or do they hurry to get all eaten up? Wink

Oh! Please show me! I was looking around for some info about it (: Since I noticed that Popo is moving the whole "eyeball" when he's looking somewhere, I thought that it can't be that bad! But if he's still bumping into things and not really noticing food until it's 1 inch away... So yes, tell me how it works!

Today they have been quite keen on getting their food actually (: And they've been eating straight from my fingers! Cheesy I couldn't be happier! <3 Except for Popo, he prefers digging around on the floor for the delicious peas and sinking pellets c:

It is the one below Creamie and Honey?
This is the plant I've seen on that terracotta vase. It is really NIIIIIIIIIIIIICE  Cheesy

I can only imagine the bliss when watching that vase! C': Please, if you buy it, show photos!

Btw, Popo got a few plants yesterday, he's so happy! (: I thought I'd take a few new photos on both tanks after the changes Wink

Sure, I will. Keep fingers crossed they still will have it when I go back next Sunday.

And just shortly about Mr. Popo's eye sight. He has a quite wide monocular field of visiont to the sides but hardly any  or very, very small binocular vision straight ahead. Oppsite to us humans. Our binocular field of vision is very wide.

And cannot wait to see your new pics

No worries,

just meant to expalin too: monocular = what one eye can see
Binocular = what 2 eyes can see at once ( basically the area of 2 overlapping
                                                             monocular fields of vision )

I was wondering bout your moor, how big is that already? It seems that the color is turning bronze like mine. When I got mine, it was 1.5" in April 2010 and velvety black in color, now it's 3" long and turning bronze in color. Is that normal? BTW, nice looking tank u got there.

Thank you! Smiley
Well, my moor was a bit longer than an inch, but not quite 1.5 ;> And that's how he is on the picture there!
Now he's actually turning blacker and more velvety all the time Smiley By now he SHOULD be about 2 inches Smiley
