Species & Gender?

Hello, I have a fish the pet store I bought it from called a "veiltail calico goldfish." I've never heard of it. I only know of Pearlscales, Pom Poms, Ranchu and Telescope eyes. Is veiltail just another name for fantail or something? My fish is named Ebony, for her black makings on its scales. But I now think its a male since I was told males have inward vents and female outwards. Is this true? If its a male then I'll change its name to Onyx since I believe it sounds more masculine while Ebony sounds feminine. Help? (Picture shows my fish.)
