hello

I was cleaning my aquarium out today and I noticed that one of my black moor Fish has been trapped behind one of the aquarium decorations which has caused some ulcer like injuries on both of his eyes. this has happened previously with the same aquarium decoration, which has now been removed. I managed to nurse the previous fish back to health. But he didn't have any injuries to his eyes. I'm just wondering if it would be more humane euthanised this fish as I think he will now be blind unless his eyes heal completely. he is eating which seems to be a good sign. I'm going to change the water daily and treat with Melafix daily until I get some good advice.

As long as his eyes *heal* and he seems content (eating and swimming like usual) I wouldn't kill him. He may not even suffer from vision loss... And if he does, remember he still has all his other senses at his disposal. Humans rely heavily on sight, so its easy for us to assume animals won't get by as well if they can't see... But this is truly not the case at all. -Especially if your Moor is still eating; blind or no, it's not hampering him. His nose is obviously still working! I'd just watch to make sure the other fish in your tank don't bother him (any more then usual)... Otherwise, enjoy letting him live a long happy life!

*heal meaning they don't remain open sores, not that they heal perfectly and he has perfect vision.

Yes I would also move the black morr to a seperate tank of 10 or mare gallons  if he lives withother fish, warm up thwe water, and add a bit of aquarium salt.

I had a black moor with both eyes damaged. before the injury i used to tap the bottle of food against the tank to make the food fall in. After the injury remembered that and when i tapped the tank the black moor came up for food. Then i dropped the food near it so it will be able to find the food. So if you made some noise when feeding,try making that noise. the black moor will realise it's feeding time and come up for food . And it managed to live quite normally, swimming about and playing with the other fishes. And remove and decor with sharp edges to prevent this from reoccurring to other fishes.
