SO not my week, need more advice

See my other recent post for tank parameters.
This morning when I checked the big tank little Elder was stuck in the output of my canister filter- not to the part that sucks in (not sure how that happened). I thought he was dead, very pale, missing scales, missing fins etc. I turned of the filter and dislodged him with a net and I saw he was alive. At first he just floated to the top gasping so I put him in a dish of tank water and went to fetch my clove oil. When I went to euthanize him he had righted himself and was able to swim. I moved him to a bettafish bowl (half full) and gave my nanny instructions to agitate the water while I went to work. He is still alive. He is missing almost all scales on one side, his dorsal and tail fins are just ragged stumps, I think his gill covers are damaged. He is able to swim and would be able to eat I think.
What should I do!? Euthanize him? Is it even possible to recover from such extensive damage? Does anyone have any info on how goldfish feel pain- info online is contridictory.
If you think I should try to save him then I need to know where to put him, the options are:
A. The bowl with twice daily water changes (he can't tolerate an airstone, blows him around)
B. Move two healthy fish into an uncycled 125gallon tank that already has 4 residents and by moving fish around he could have a 10 gallon iso.
C. Move him into 30 gal with one fish suffering from shock.
D.Move my betta to a bowl and put him in 3.5 gal cycled with filter.

I'd move him to the 30 gal, and add a concentration of salt, it would be beneficial for both fish in the tank
And the safest option for this poor little guy. He looks hurt, but not dying, so you would most likely be able to save him.
Feed them extra tasty foods, anything they'll eat readily and keep a close eye on him so that he won't get any infections. A 0.3% salt solution in the water will ward off parasites and fungus, and in case any wounds or anything get infected, just use hydrogen peroxide.

Awww no the poor little guy! I'd say follow Nossie's advice and just observe him for any infections that may occur because of the incident.
Hope he gets better!

Thanks Skwishee. I doubt he'll make it, he looks really really bad. I feel absolutely wretched guilt, the poor guy. No infection yet though.

Aww Cheri it's okay, it wasn't your fault the fish decided to explore the filter. Sometimes they just do silly things.
He probably looks worse, because there's a lot of physical damage, but give him some time and good water quality, I hope he pulls through!

Sorry to hear that Cheri, dont be too hard on yourself, when setting up a new fish environ it is always hard to cover every problem that may arrise. Remember the good times and try not to dwell on what happened. All the best for your future fishkeeping. > Ron
