How far across the room can comet goldfish see?  Can they see me if I am 20 feet away?

Eyesight in (gold) fish is pretty amazing.
They can see colours like us humans, but they also perceive the UV spectrum. Tey can accomodate to different distances but not in changing the shape of their  crystaline lens like we do, but moving it backwards and forwards. I don't know what the furthest distance is they can see, but for sure they see further than 20feet which is about 6 m.
They can see you, hear you but also feel the vibrations when you are around the corner walking around.

When I am further away from our tank and I call their names and wave to them they go nuts and wiggle in the corner facing me  Grin

I read in a book that they can only see 1 foot!!  (I think it was 'Freshwater Aquariums for Dummies'.  Who's the dummy?)

I knew this was wrong because they come to the side of the tank that I'm on, even when I'm waking up in the morning, or have the bathroom light on, etc., etc..   Smiley

Goldfish don't have to see you being far away, but they can feel the vibrations of your foot steps, so they know when mommy is approaching with food Wink They can also hear you if you're talking or otherwise making sounds around them Smiley

I keep the radio on all day long if I'm gone for that very reason! (don't want them to get lonely lol) They seem to respond well to music... Shocked

My fish loved to watch TV with us before! Unfortunately, they're out of range now so they can't really watch us play video games or watch movies anymore Sad But I think they're pretty entertained by all the big, fun things in their tank! Cheesy

Our fishies can peek into the living room and watch telly too, they also can see our sculls, at least. But they all watch me when I cook and they always drool into the plates, cups, mugs, etc and they go nuts when I open the freezer, LOL

They watch TV too? I wondered about that as that is where my new tank has been set up, about 20 feet away from the TV. I know my 'tiels enjoy watching the telly particularly FamGuy maybe Mr. Tailer will enjoy it too Smiley LMAO Hanna, drooling as you cook, back of your skulls - hysterical!!!  Grin

Since I got my tank I've been observing Sunshine sleeping alot more, best times for catching her is when I have a sleep in on the weekend and it's still dark in my room around 10am. But as soon as I get up Sunshine knows and starts going crazy, it happens everytime. Very cute Smiley

Aww! Smiley so did I! My fish use to be asleep when we get up for work/school between 7-8. You can see them when the light in the bathroom is on c: Did you ever happen to "wake her up"? Wink As in, you turned on the light all of a sudden and she starts darting around half-asleep Wink

Yeah, I've got mine in the exact right spot for observing sleep as it is parallel with my bed, so Sunshine can also watch me sleep  Shocked Haha. That's happened occasionally but I try to make sure it doesn't, both fish normally wake up when I get up anyway.
