Chill Out, Fishies!

It's been unseasonably warm here, and as a result our goldie's tank is getting a touch warmer. It's about at 75 degrees F right now. I tried using ice in plastic bags, but they nibbled through the bags, then I tried ice cubes made from water treated with water conditioner, but they melted too fast. The goldies look okay so far, and I don't want them to overheat. What do other people use to keep their fishies nice and cool during hot days?

I wouldn't worry too much because goldfish are quite adaptable to water temperature as high as 90 degrees F.
The only problem with warmer water is that the oxygen will get depleted much easier. Make sure you have good water circulation and aeration in your tank.

As we do live in the subtropics, our autumn temp now is about 28 C during the day and so is the tank water temp.
I do run the ceiling fan which provides a cooler breaze.
75F is about 23.8 C, this is really ok and you shouldn't worry.
Very important is good aeration ( airstone ) and circulation as Mindemae said.

We are also having unseasonably warm weather here in northern michigan!! I think we skipped spring and went right to summer this year! It is suppose to be in the eighties today. Right now my tanks temps are at 75 F. So far we have a nice breeze but if it gets too hot I will turn on the air conditioning.
You probably will see your fish more active at warmer temperatures. I know mine are swimming like crazy and showing some spawning activity.

Mindemae, sure you mean 75 F not C
otherwise your fishies will start to wipe their foreheads with their hankies
Yep ceiling fans or air con helps a lot, you need those in Queensland Summer when it gets up to 36 C

LOL 75 C is too hot for anyone!
They have an airstone and a little treasure chest bubbler as well as a filter, so they should be fine on oxygen. I also gave them some lettuce, and tomorrow they get their version of Easter candy- a big slice of cool, delicious cucumber!

No, I never have tried their goldfish granules. I think they contain fish meal, and I'm vegetraian. And they loved their cucumber! Even finicky Spot went nuts and ate the middle right out! We have a video, but this site hasn't been nice to me about posting pics and videos. I'll try later in the week.

Katarine: I rather avoid tasting my fishies' staple pellets since it says "not for human consumption" on them d:
I did consider tasting the blood worms though... *mwahaha*

Meh. The flakes aren't bad, and not harmful if you just eat a little bit
But maybe I'm weird that way
