Last weekend, I set up my new 60 gallon tank. It's still in the midst of being cycled, however I've  noticed a bunch of poop on the gravel. I want to clean it out, but I wasn't sure if I cleaned the tank, if it would ruin the cycling process. Should I do a 10% water change and scoop it out with a net, or  try to vacuum it up? I really don't want to ruin the process.

when you vacuum the tank Minde, do you keep that water, filter out the crap and then add it back? I have never been clear on this myself because more than 10% gets sucked out when I have siphoned debris from the gravel. At the moment I have been siphoning very small amounts thru a very small hose (1/2 in diameter approx) and carefully moving around the plants manage to get quite a bit of loose dirt up and out without losing too much of that precious recently cycled water. And of course have turkey baster...will suck anything s.h.i.t. related LOL

I wouldn't worry at all about destroying any process, when I was cycling my tank, I was changing 50% once a week, and it still cycled in 12 days I was cleaning the gravel each time.

So just go ahead and clean the poop out! (But I wouldn't change more than 50%)
