Inactive at bottom of tank
« on: February 28, 2010, 05:07:30 PM »

Please help.  I am new to owning goldfish and need information.  I get mixed information from the aquarium shop and other "pet" stores. I have had my fish  (2) for a week. One has lost interest in swimming, has been upside down on the bottom or hovers on the top.  At feeding, which I do 2x/day, he appears normal. Twice, I thought that he was dead, only to see him start swimming when I went to move him.  I am feeding them OMEGA ONE small goldfish pellets, recommended by the aquarium shop.

perhaps its stress, or a swim bladder infection. I've never had any experience with this, but other people have... umm.. I think you can treat it with medication. What, I cant tell you. Sorry!

First things first, test your water C: This is the most common reason for trouble.
Buy tests for pH, nitrite, nitrate and ammonia, and use them as soon as possible. If everything is alright, you might need to treat your fish for swim bladder disease.
