Standard Fantail?

This is my bigger boy. I say boy because he's so much bigger then the other goldie I have even though they were identical in size when I purchased them. They quickly had to be separated because Megatron (pictured here, goofy name, I know) was trying to kill everyone else in the tank when he outgrew them.

So is he just a standard fantail? He's quite amazing and beautiful! His dorsal and lower fins, when extended, make him as tall as he is long. Also, is this even a male or is that too hard to tell in this picture? And finally, is he overweight?

He looks more like an oranda than a fantail. The fins are much longer and more fancy than most fantail. One way to tell whether or not it's a he or she is to look at the gill covers. Males will have breeding tubercles, which look like little white dots.  Females also tend to have a more rounded body (result of carrying eggs).

He looks pretty normal otherwise.

That's probably an oranda, you can see the headgrowth on him. Take a look at his vent, if it's round and a bit protruding, it's a girl, but if it's oval and concave, it's a boy Smiley
You couldn't see the breeding tubercles unless he'd be in breeding mood, and it can take between 1-10 years for a goldfish to be sexually mature Smiley
