Can you tell us what your tank size is and whether or not the water has been conditioned (treated to remove chloramine and chlorine ). Is there a water filter and were the fish active at the store before you bought them.

It usually not normal for fish to not move and be active unless they are sick. Do you see any white spots on them, open sores, red blood streaks, tail and fin rot, etc?

at the store they gave us bacteria fluids to add to the water>? wouldnt the salt kill that too???

having devoted most of my time to fish and goldfish specifically, i feel as though i should answer this.
fish do not sleep the way humans do; although we sleep while our breathing is controlled by the spinal cord and subconscious processes, fish do not have such a system. there are two kinds of fish sleep patterns, and all others are mere shoot offs of one type or the other. the first type is where a fish will hang suspended in the water column of the tank, moving as little as possible, drifting with the water currents, allowing themselves to float near each other but never to make contact. the other type of fish sleeping pattern is to actually rest on the floor of the tank on rocks and stuff directly-these fish will rarely move if at all when they are sleeping. in both cases, fins are extended for maximum control and steering as well as stability. in the type number one fish, called the suspended, the most prominent fins to be extended are the pelvic and the dorsal; the pectoral will be held parallel to the floor of the aquarium and moved more often than any other fin.
in type number two, called bottom fish, the two pair of fins extended are the pectoral and the dorsal-the fins most commonly moved are the pectoral and the pelvic simultaneously so that the fish "hops" up and bounces. these fish can sleep close together or very far apart, sometimes even varying depending on their own schedules. i have even heard of one strange fish which perches in the center of a specific plastic fern in his tank ad sleeps there no matter where the fern is placed.
fish do not "sleep" when it is light outside their tank.the production of sleep inducing chemicals is disrupted by light, which is how they wake up in the morning or if you turn their light on hideously early. if a fish is on the bottom not moving except for his gills during the daytime hours, there is not enough water circulating around in your tank. goldfish are lazy; they do not swim if they don't have to. therefore, if there is a spot of water your fish congregate when they are not engaged, then that is where there is least water circulation.
to remedy, you need to arrange the stuff in the tank so that water moves everywhere consistently.
