I agree with you Hanna!  I'm like the protective mother hen! BIG TIME!!!
I picked out a 15 gallon tank for them.  It was used so I re-siliconed it.
I am going to cycle it and then add my babies maybe when they are 3 weeks or later.
I will play it by ear.  so far my instinct has told me what to do, I will follow my instinct. Wink

DAY 18

Can you believe it!?
Those little darlings are so very cute.
I can see what you mean about the bonding because when they see me they hurry up and swim over to where I am and they look at me and tread water, anticipating being fed I suppose. Cheesy
I tried bloodworms for the second time but they just looked at them like I had thrown some foreign object in their home.  Acted much like they did when I put the marble in there! Wink LOL!  So I got out the rotifers instead.
Nothings changed much since yesterday growth wise that I noticed, but I will add some more pictures later! Smiley

I know how this is, so sweet when the smallest come to you ( here mixed with the big ones ) and just wiggling with excitement and waiting to be fed.
I cannot thank you enough for sharing this beautiful journey Cheesy

I just snapped the picture as his tail was waggin through the water as he was swimming. Wink
I see no deformities at this time on any of the babies! Smiley

DAY 19

Here we are at DAY 19, already! and headed down the stretch  towards 3 weeks!!
WOW, I am amazed when I think about it and how far we have come in just this short time.
I am anticipating another growth spurt shortly and so I've set up their tank and it is cycling.
It is a 15 gallon tank with 2 filters, which they are going to need.
One is a hang on the back, power filter for a 10 gallon tank and the other one is an internal filter run by an air pump. I did put gravel on the bottom on the tank to help establish good bacteria growth and a natural "holey" rock in there for them to swim and play and hide in. (This will also establish good bacteria)  I also put a little hornwort in there and will leave it just to float about.
The power filter, if it is too strong, I have a sponge that will fit over the intake tube, to protect them from getting sucked up the filter, however the intake tube holes are very tiny so it may not even be a problem.
I can also tone down the internal filter and adjust the air pump flow.
I'm excited at the prospect of moving them.  I've decided they should be at least a month old before I do this.

Let me know your thoughts on this.....I will post  new DAY 19 pictures soon!

Like every day, this is the first thread I open to read your new post about the babies.
It is so amzing.
I agree with waiting until they are about one month old. Those sponge protectors over the intake tube are good thing to have, got one by myself.
They sure will enjoy their new home. It will be interesting watching them exploring their new home eventually.

KARMA again for you Minde

Heh minde I remember you saying you can't find daphnia in your area. Have you thought of trying the freeze dried version. I know petmountain has it not sure about bigals. Also I get the hikari freeze dried blood worms because I can crush them up for babies (saw you had trouble feeding them bloodworms) and all of hikaris freeze dried foods are vitamin enriched. Here's a link for the daphnia. (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.) Hope this helps in some way. My baby Orandas love the freeze dried worms.

Aimee that is a great suggestion! I found the pellets I have for Tailer way too big for tiny Jilly so started tossing a pinch of those freeze dried blood worms - she loves them! It is so cute when she attempts to suck in the whole tiny worm like spaghetti noodles. Keep up the wonderful job you are doing Minde, the way you have documented your day to day experience is of great importance to anyone on here who may find themselves with tiny Goldie wees of their own one day (myself included - fins crossed ♥) Love the new pics - wow!

DAY 20

Wow! I just thought of something!~ Tomorrow will be day 21 and so 3 weeks, and it's Christmas!
The only thing I see growth wise different is that their bodies are thickening.  They aren't little skinny, straight pin babies anymore
they are developing a thicker body and they are not transparent anymore.  I guess, what I mean to say is they are developing flesh and muscle over their bodies now.   Smiley
I've thought alot about when I move them to the aquarium and how their diet is going to have to change.  The rotifers are the first thing to go off their new menu.  I have to feed a more substantial diet and eliminate most of the powdery micro-foods I've been feeding them because I'm afraid when I transfer them to the 15 gallon, it will just pollute the tank, very quickly.  Right now I am doing water changes before every meal and changing out their water at least every other day.  And with the filters running, they will suck up the micro-foods, possibly before the babies can even eat them.  So anyway, I've decided that week three will be an experiment on new foods.  I am going to try crushing some of the foods I give to the other adult fish and make a list on which ones the babies will accept and eat. Smiley
Pictures to follow later.

The funny thing about my fish is they rip up their food so it doesn't have to be mouth sized. But of course they are to small to rip a leg of a cricket. Grin

Minde, Happy 3rd Week Birthday and MERRY XMAS  Grin

You may try the dried gammarus, rubbed between your fingers. Our babies are crazy about it... and of course the adults too.
Enjoy this special day with family and all loving animals  Wink  Kiss

They get Vitaline and the first ingredient is sun-dried shrimp.  I crush it up between my fingers before feeding and they eat the powdery pieces just fine but the coarser pieces they ignore still. Smiley
