DAY 41

And now we are six!
I know, I am bummed that all the goldfish are not going to make it but if you think about it, if I had 50, probably half wouldn't survive, and certainly not in the wild.  The runts I believe probably had something wrong with them.
I am stuffing them with food, and the big ones are growing so much faster, they must get hungry for a midnight snack, during the night.
I am feeding them a very varied diet now.  Yesterday they even ate some crushed up big pellets for the first time.
I think the bigger pieces are helping to sustain them better than crushed up flakes or even the baby brine shrimp seems to not satisfy them for long.  The daphnia is a bit bigger and seems better to feed but they still love the baby brine shrimp so I will continue to feed that as a snack once in awhile.
When they are 2 months old, I plan to move them to a 20 gallon tank which has been cycling.

That's a good way to think Minde, Though I'm sorry you couln't keep all 9 of them. At least you can rest assured that you can keep at least 1. If all else fails, 1 will survive

I can't get over how they can spurt in growth in a 24 hr period! They look amazing and I hope to get a nice patch of algae like that in Jilly's tank soon now that I know it is a benefit to them

They'll soon be two months old! Man, time flies!

I've got my fingers crossed for the rest of them too especially the little runt It sounds like he has a good survival instinct. I can't believe how big they are now, it doesn't seem like Sunshine was that much bigger than them when I first got her. She was tiny but it's hard to tell how big yours are so I may be way off

Just found this thread and WOW!  You are taking such good care of your little babies.  All that work has paid off.  I didn't know that it took so long for the coloring to come about.  That will be another great surprise when it happens. 

I read the word cull before and didn't know what that meant, wish I still didn't. 
Anyway, a huge CONGRATS on your new baby fish!

Bel: Culling is when a breeder is getting rid of the specimens with a few imperfections. The first culling takes place when he can see the shape of them, if their backs aren't straight for example, they'd get culled.
Later in the process he's culling them for finnage, body shape and finally color. But these culls usually get sent to the pet shops or as feeder fish while the breeder keeps the show-quality fish for further breeding, or private trade
