Ohhh Minde, so sad, I am so sorry to hear that Cry
It is so strange that there are no bodies to see, as the other fishies are not THAT much bigger  Huh

But still, CONGRATULATIONS ON 40 DAYS BIRTHDAY and you just do a fantastic job as I mentioned quite a few times in the past.  Cheesy

Unfortunately loosing some wees is natures power. Sad

Poor fishy... That's okay though, Minde. It's the power of Nature that calls back the little ones to her nest. Smiley You're doing amazingly Cheesy

DAY 41

And now we are six! Smiley
I know, I am bummed that all the goldfish are not going to make it but if you think about it, if I had 50, probably half wouldn't survive, and certainly not in the wild.  The runts I believe probably had something wrong with them.
I am stuffing them with food, and the big ones are growing so much faster, they must get hungry for a midnight snack, during the night. Wink
I am feeding them a very varied diet now.  Yesterday they even ate some crushed up big pellets for the first time.
I think the bigger pieces are helping to sustain them better than crushed up flakes or even the baby brine shrimp seems to not satisfy them for long.  The daphnia is a bit bigger and seems better to feed but they still love the baby brine shrimp so I will continue to feed that as a snack once in awhile.
When they are 2 months old, I plan to move them to a 20 gallon tank which has been cycling. Smiley
Here are DAY 41 pix.

That's a good way to think Minde, Though I'm sorry you couln't keep all 9 of them. At least you can rest assured that you can keep at least 1. If all else fails, 1 will survive

DAY 42

WELL WE HAVE 6 BABIES STILL WITH US! Smiley

They ate bloodworms for the first time today!!
I fed everyone bloodworms and the babies chowed them down too!!
I've tried before but it was a no go!  They were so cute as they slurped them like spaghetti! Grin
I been so busy trying to take apart the Marineland canister filter today!  What a pain.  I finally had to go to Marineland.com and print out the manual.  That filter is the biggest pain in the royal ass if you ask me and even if you don't, I'm telling you, stay away from buying that piece of junk! Angry
So we are at day 42 and here are some pictures of the sweet darlings.  Also, I know their tank looks dirty but it's just algae and they love to nibble on it, so I don't want to wipe it off the tank sides just yet.
Gives them something to do and graze on until the next feeding time. Wink

I can't get over how they can spurt in growth in a 24 hr period! They look amazing and I hope to get a nice patch of algae like that in Jilly's tank soon now that I know it is a benefit to them  Grin

DAY 43

Oh I so hope that this last little runt wil survive.  If anything he is smart as he hides in the plants as if he knows he will be prey if he doesn't! Undecided
The babies had adult size brine shrimp this am!!  They ate it just fine!  AND I don't need to crush up flakes as fine anymore!  They slurp up those big pieces like adult fish do!! they come to the top of the tank and I can actually hand feed them they are so tame!! They are so cute and I love them so much!  I want them to grow up and become happy adults!  I'm trying so hard!  Sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night and check on them, only to find they are asleep at the bottom of their tank. Smiley
I haven't really named them as it would somehow be more heartbreaking if they didn't survive if they had names... Undecided
Here are pix for Day 43! Cheesy

I've got my fingers crossed for the rest of them too especially the little runt Smiley It sounds like he has a good survival instinct. I can't believe how big they are now, it doesn't seem like Sunshine was that much bigger than them when I first got her. She was tiny but it's hard to tell how big yours are so I may be way off Cheesy

You are doing a wonderful job Mindemae and I don't think anyone of us could be more proud of you Smiley

It's true! Fingers crossed for the remaining fish, especially the runt of the litter. Smiley They're all so darling, and they look huge!  I mean, when I got Sonorus, she was only an inch and a half long two inches maybe. Now shes goin on three inches. Im curious to know how big these little guys are Cheesy

Oh Minde they are very special little ones indeed. Can completely understand not wanting to name them just yet. The bond is strong with them as you have given them your heart over this entire journey. A part of you has literally 'grown' into them ♥ This stage must be harrowing and waking up to check on them makes perfect sense. Hoping 'halfy' can fend for himself the sweet little wee runt Wink

DAY 44

Here we are on day 44.  We have all 6 babies still with us. Smiley
I am guesstimating that the largest baby is almost an inch long including tail.
They are still sliver grey color.  They won't get their color for awhile yet.
They are eating like little piggies. Wink
I've been busy with my new 90gallon tank, cleaning filters and cycling that.
I pulled some back muscles so this wil be breif the next few days.  Sorry but the heating pad is my best friend right now!! Sad

Just found this thread and WOW!  You are taking such good care of your little babies.  All that work has paid off.  I didn't know that it took so long for the coloring to come about.  That will be another great surprise when it happens.

I read the word cull before and didn't know what that meant, wish I still didn't.  Cry
Anyway, a huge CONGRATS on your new baby fish!

Bel: Culling is when a breeder is getting rid of the specimens with a few imperfections. The first culling takes place when he can see the shape of them, if their backs aren't straight for example, they'd get culled.
Later in the process he's culling them for finnage, body shape and finally color. But these culls usually get sent to the pet shops or as feeder fish while the breeder keeps the show-quality fish for further breeding, or private trade Smiley
