Goldie Updates!!!!

Hey all! I'm glad to say that I am back online, and I some apologies to make:

- firstly, I'm sorry for just taking off and not answering any of the posts you guys made in my other topics... Undecided

- next, sorry for not really taking your advice a lot of the times - I know guys are being very helpful, but it was frustrating sometimes... Embarrassed

I promise that I'll follow your advice as well as I can in the future! Wink

Alrighty... goldie updates.. I am now down to THREE goldies. First off, there was an outbreak of ich... very sad, but I was not able to save Jingle or Nugget.... Cry

Nugget stopped swimming on Saturday night, and Jingle on Sunday afternoon (They will be missed) I didn't get the medication in time, but the other three are thriving and getting visibly better. At first they all showed hundreds (well, maybe not hundreds, but a lot) of ich spots, and now they are undergoing ich meds as well as anti-parasite and anti-bacteria med foods.

You MIGHT be wondering... THREE goldies? I thought she would only have two left after Jingle and Nugget? Well, don't get angry, but there was a gorgeous little Crown Pearlscale that I saw at the store, and I just couldn't resist! I named him Diabolitio - I'll see if I can post some pics soon.

Anyway, I hope you guys are really understanding... Thanks!

I'm glad things are going better for you and your fishes.

I don't know if the anti-bacterial foods will help with any secondary bacterial infections and don't know if you need anti-parasite food if you're already medicating for ich.

Keep a close eye for any more problems that may develop, as you may need to add anti-bacterial medication if there are bacterial problems. Since ich is a parasite, while your anti-ich medicine kills the ich, there may be sores left where the ich was on the fish, therefore causing lesions where bacteria can attack. That's why I don't know if the food will help, just keep an eye on it and if you need to medicate for bacteria, use a gram-negative med since it won't harm your biological filter.

Also, while you're medicating, please watch your ammonia level. Mine spiked when I was medicating, and my fish got ammonia burns. He's fully recovered now, but he had to go thru more medication just because I didn't test for ammonia.

Ok, thanks so much Summer Time!

I'll watch out for ammonia spikes for sure. Thanks for the advice about bacteria and stuff. Despite all that, I think I will still keep on treating the anti-parasite and anti-bacterial. I'd like to keep on the safe side, and it's a regular safety precaution (you know, give them med food every so often as a precaution)

Also - how often should I give them anti-parasite and anti-bacteria meds? This is my first treatment for anti-parasite, second time for anti-bacteria (the first was about 1 1/2 months ago) is that too soon? I was thinking maybe a couple times a year?

Well, a bit of good and bad news... Only two goldies made it: Pebbles and Diabolitio.. happily, I now have 2 goldies in a 20 gallon so they have room to grow, but I will miss the others... especially Zodiac Cry

To my understanding, you are using medications for ich? Are there any other problems you are medicating for? Because if not, ich can be cured without meds using a salt concentration of .3 per 10 gallons...

And about how often you should medicate, don't medicate AT ALL unless you see signs of a problem. It messes with your tank bacteria and stresses out zee fishiez.
