Fancyfish has gone blind

Due to circumstances 1 of my husbands fancy fish has lost both eyes.  Will it be ok or will it be better for the fish if we kill it.  Fish feel pain dont they.

Yes , goldfish can feel pain like any other pet. If you feel the goldfish or any pet is suffering, then euthanasia is always an option - but it should only be used as a last resort.

You can euthanize a goldfish by using clove oil to put the fish to sleep and finally vodka to ensure it will not wake up again. If you like detailed instructions, just let me know and i will post it.

By the way, what type of goldfish is it and how do you know it is blind?

Its a green Ranchu Goldfish, its a long story but it has no eyes.  Before we adopted it a algea eater sucked one of the eyes out.

I have a fancyfish who is blind in one eye and has been for the past year. She does absolutely fine but occassionally bumps into the other fish!! I will say on the note of euthinasia, only this week i took one of my goldfish to the vets for this reason as he was really and it only cost £15. You might think it sounds expensive but it is the most humane option if you ever need to do it.

  I think you should watch the fish first to see how it adapts to being blind.  I know it sucks that the fish is blind but some species are capable of adapting and overcoming to survive.  If the fish cant adapt and appears to be suffering then yes I think it would be okay to put the fish down but give the fish a chance before making the decision.
