Very Useful Resources
« on: November 30, 2011, 01:33:56 PM »

Hey guys!

I just wanted to share two websites, that I've been using recently and have found very helpful!

The first website, is basically a calculator  Cheesy
(Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)
I've linked to the Volume calculator, that with dimensions, will tell you the volume of your aquarium.
It also has calculators for Volume, Stocking Level, Surface Area, Water Weight and Linear Size.

The second website, helps with stocking and filtration in more detail than the above website.
(Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)
You basically input, your tank dimensions, the filters that your using and what fish you have in the tank.

Then in the area below this, it will tell you the following;
Recommended temperature, PH range and Hardness. Whether you have sufficient filtration levels, as well as suggesting a water change routine and will also comment on your stocking level of the tank.
It will also come up with a warning, if your fish will out grow your tank or if you have over stocked/under filtered it  Smiley

I figured as we have so many people, like myself, who get a little confused with stocking levels, how many fish can I have in a such and such tank. I thought it would be helpful to post these websites that I use and find really handy  Grin

Feel free to share any other online resources you guys use
Maybe we could get a little 'data bank' of some sort going  Cheesy

Nice links! Smiley I think I used them sometime when checking my filtration...

Here are my two favorite goldfish-related pages:

-> (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)
One of my first favorite sites related to goldfish Smiley It contains lots of good information on how to feed and keep goldfish along with really nice descriptions of each variety. Something everyone here should read! Cheesy

-> (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)
This contains another bunch of articles and faq:s, I'm particularly fond of the health section of course c:
American people can also order show quality fish from here, along with supplies like foods, medicines and books.

Oh another website I forgot to mention - (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)

I use this one a lot too! It has the most amazing section of articles, which cover everything you could possibly think of.
It has information on Goldfish basics, their nutrition, anatomy, gills, developmental colour changes, sexing a goldfish, Water quality, Tropicals, Plants.
It has a very good Illness and Health section which has the usual advice about quarantine for new fish, hospital tanks, that kind of thing but it even covers procedures like using clove oil, how to clean an ulcer or fin rot, diagnosing with Necropsy and surgeries by Vets!

Goldie: Who doesn't? Wink I use to stare at the pictures in my goldfish books even if I read them through a million times! :'D
I spent the whole evening reading through goldfish-emergency.net lately, never knew about the different treatments they mentioned, really interesting! Smiley

I know right!  Cheesy I love goldies so much, even just looking at pictures of goldfish is so much fun! Glad to hear it's not just me being weird.  Tongue And glad you found that website fascinating! Stumbled on it when trying to find a cure for a fish of mine that had overheated and was displaying dropsy-like symptoms. It really helped with techniques for combatting dropsy, though most fish I've had that have contracted that haven't made it no matter what I did.  Undecided I like that it puts a lot of emphasis on proper oxygenation...so many fish keepers just don't realize its importance.  Smiley

Absolutely, and it's really cute how they don't talk much about "tanks" but rather "goldfish houses" Wink

After my attempt of linking to another forum failed, I contacted the member and they gave me another link that should work, so I thought best to post here, in the useful webpage's section  Cheesy
Some information about the result of fish being kept in tanks that are too small....

(Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)

And also a real comparison, the size a goldfish should get, compared to those crazy bowls that are sold.

(Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)

Oh there is also this page, the member is currently working on, but it should have some useful information and resources soon  Smiley
