Tank Size Q

Hi everyone! Smiley

Just a quick Q about the size of my tank. I recently bought my Son (and myself Wink) a Goldfish starter kit, the size of the tank is 3.74 Gal. After doing some quick research it seems its too small for my fish to live happily and healthy. I just assumed that as I bought my tank in a proper Fish store (Swallows) that it would be fine. Thanks for any advice

Goldfish tend to grow to a length of 6 inches or more. Some varieties such as the comet and common goldfish can grow to over 10 inches in length if given adequate space.

A 3.74 gallon is probably good enough for a year or so but the fish (i'm assuming it's a goldfish) will probably outgrow it.  Goldfish can become stunted if it's kept in a small aquarium, which will shorten its lifespan.   If you have the space i would recommend a 29 gallon aquarium (the larger the better).

Definitely too small. It may last long enough to get a bigger tank going, definitely not a year. Most of mine are less than a year old, some are already baseball size. The basic guide is 20 gallons for one, an additional ten gallons per additional goldfish. This assumes heavy filtration and an aggressive water change schedule.
