hi i,m new here and i,ve lost all but 2 of my fancy goldfish,we did a partial water change friday then the lighting failed we left them in the dark until today when we was going to replace light,they were ok and feeding yesterday got up this morning and all but 2 are dead ,there was partian fin s missing and red at base of fins and tail what went wrong ? thanks

sounds like not a lighting problem but a water quality problem.
Test you water for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph. Smiley

It sounds to me like they could have gotten some fin rot due to bad water quality, you should do as Mindemae said and test the water parameters Smiley If your fish are displaying torn fins, you should perform a 50% water change and add some suitable medication against fin rot. You could try Melafix for instance Smiley

That is sad to hear megan, these gals are absolutely right - check out the condition of your water and if you have to treat with medication as Nossie mentioned Melafix is amazing!!! I've had to use it on damaged fins and the healing is visible usually within 2 days and it's a natural product. Be sure to test the tap water too as it can sometimes have different levels of ammonia in it depending on where you are.
