Please help vic!!!
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:16:27 AM »

Hi

Have 4 fish in my tank all have grown appart from one (vic). He is still that same size as as when we brought him about 8 months ago. He had a spell of fin rot which was treated in the tank and none of the other fish caught it. but know he won't grow.

Please can anyone help.

Are the other fish much older than Vic? And how big is the tank? Is he getting enough to eat?

It could also be that you simply haven't noticed him growing! It happens sometimes Smiley Especially if you see the fish every day!

he def hasn't grown bob who we brought at the same time is about 3 times the size of vic plus we brought two other comets about 2 months after the 1st two and they are both twice the size of vic.
Tank is a 60l with just four comet fish in. feed them twice a day and all of them swim up to the top of the tank to feed.

So it's far, far, far too small. It's ridiculous how small it is for FOUR COMETS.
Each comet needs 40L minimum, so you'd better get yourself a larger tank asap. You need at least a 160L. This is most likely why Vic won't grow, there's no space for him to, and it might also be that he doesn't get enough food. Or that the food he gets isn't very nutritious. If you're feeding them flakes/pellets and only that, expect to have stunted goldfish! You need to give them variety: Blood worms, shrimp, krill, tubifex, brine shrimp... Buy some freeze-dried live foods, they're full of protein and the young goldfish need it to grow properly! You can feed them some frozen peas now and then that you thaw and pop out of their shells before feeding Smiley

I completely agree with Nossie. Your tank is far , far, too small for your goldfish to develop and grow properly.
They are fish they like to speed up in swimming without having to slow down and stop because there is no space anymore to swim to.

Get high quality food and as Nossie said feed a large variety. Also fresh fruit and veggie sometimes like watermelon, strawberry, zucchini, cucumber, broccoli as well.

The reason your fish is probably stunted and got fin rot (which can kill!) is because your tank is way way too small. That is an extremely important point. It may not be the reason your fish is small, maybe some fish are small just like humans are.

A better diet and 160L for those fish would be ideal so go do it Cheesy
