Fish eats poop
« on: March 11, 2010, 03:52:42 PM »

Hi, Ive noticed Tiger likes chasing his poop around and eating it, then spitting it out. Is this normal? and can I get a toy for him so he doesn't eat his poop?

My fishies do that sometimes- they see something floating and think it's food.  Mine usually spit it out, but once Spot swallowed it on accident...the look on his face was too funny!  Seriously, he might jus be looking for food.  I'd put in some live plants as snacks.  Your pet store would have some suggestions as to what kind are best for nibbling.

Neeeh, don't worry about him chasing poo d: It's just like that with goldfish that they think "FOOOOOOOD" about everything, but I guess he doesn't quite like the taste since he's spitting it out d: My goldfish are chasing it too, but as soon as they get close enough to it to see what it is they just leave it be. Earlier they were even catching it with their mouth like yours does, but they quickly learned that it's not tasty ):
Anyway, I don't think you need to do anything about this, since it's not harmful to your fish in any way (: But you could always allow some algae to grow on your plastic plants and on the tank sides as it gives something for them to eat and be busy with Wink

Mine do the same thing, they gulp the poop and then spit the poop. I'm under the impression that to goldfish, anything that isn't tied down is considered as food.
