It is now the beginning of spring/summer where I live. All winter long my fishies were fine at around 72 degrees. I do not have central air in my home, we have lots of fans, and my tank is at 78-80 degrees. My poor fishies are stressed out. They got ick from the temp going up and down. Got rid of the ick in 2 days thankfully. I do weekly water changes about 15 %, I also condition the water that I return into my tank. Now they have something going on with their tail fins, it seems they are starting to frey at the ends. I have started treating with melafix. Treatment 2 days now...they seem better. What is going on with my fishies, and is there anything I can do to get the water temp lower. I keep the light off during the day and have the hood lid up also. I have 4 fish in a 55 gal tank, I have two airstones in it as well as two outside box filters, aquaclear 300's. Three out of the four are doing well, one is still keeping his find clamped, and swimming head down..not sure why. They are all eating fine. I have tested my water, and everything is ok. I am planning to go for the full 7 day treatment and then do another water change as per melafin instructions. I just hope me fishies get through this ok. We are getting centrail are soon!!! Just in case Melafix won't work for the first few days, buy some real medicine against bacterial infections, because Melafix is made out of natural ingredients and isn't really killing off any bacteria, more like a tonic for the fish, to help them recover faster.

If you had ich, it's quite explainable that it passed so fast since you had quite high temperatures in your tank it sped up the life-cycle of the free swimming parasites and they died before reaching another host. In other words, your fishes' immune system dealt with all the infesting parasites on its own. Meaning that the water is perfect, and that you should try to meddle with it as little as possible

You have a great setup, so just take it easy, and leave the water temp alone (: At most you could add water that's a bit colder (1-2 degrees) than the general temp of the system. But if I were you, I'd test the water chemistry for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, to be sure that all is well (:
