Fish Nutrition

So basically I've been wondering about the nutritional needs of goldfish. What kinds of foods do they need not only to stay healthy, but be happy and active? I know that if I feed my fish the same food forever, they'll end up getting bored. What kinds of manufactured foods would you recommend (Wardley, TetraMin, etc) and what kinds of natural foods (cucumber, peas, etc)?

You can find alot information about this already on the forum so please have a look around. Nossie did a great post on this the other week.
I reckon a varied diet is most important and it is hard to recommend a good brand as every country as different ones
They are all pretty good, ask at your local pet shop and see what other specific goldfish food they have.
Here's the link to what Nossie and Hanna have already written about fish food (

I would suggest:
insects caught outside that cannot sting or bite painfully
cucumbers
lettuce
peas
zucchini
shrimp
very small fish
slugs
worms

They eat guppy-sized fish, yes, but I'd rather avoid that since goldfish aren't really predatory. And slugs, yes. Anything that fits into their mouths

They'll try to eat anything!!! I had a tug of war with Sunshine about two weeks ago with an elastic band that got lose and must have looked like a worm. One of the scariest moments of my life fighting with my goldfish over an elastic band
Haha, I won luckily

OMG Andrea, I'd be scared to death, lucky you that you've seen it.
It sounds funny, but I bet it isn't at all.

Yeah, I walked in and saw it laying there and I went to quickly wash my hands before putting my hand in there to get out, well before I even got a chance to do that Sunshine went for it and it was like OMG
Goldfish are stronger than you think
