Yes, certain types of rocks will harden your water. They are usually used in cichlid tanks. Check online for the names of stones but usually, if the rock fizzes when vinegar is dropped on it then it is calciferous, meaning it will release calcium compounds and increase your water's hardness. I happen to have two of these rocks on hand, you don't happen to live in Dallas Tx do you?

It's probably not too soft to bug a goldfish, they honestly don't care much at all for hardness or pH as long as it doesn't fluctuate =P
