I am new in keeping goldfish too, but according to some research on the net: did you check the ph ?
Possibly acid burns? I am not sure either but just for an idea to check ...
Hope it is only a normal change in colour and that you will have lots of fun with your 2 little buddies, like we do have with our 2 comet Humphrey and Hepsiba.
Good Luck

Could be just a color change but you want to make sure it's not anything in the water that is causing it. First thing you want to do is test the water. If everything turns out fine with the water test, then i would just keep an eye on the fish for a few days to make sure everything is fine.

Check all your water parameters, because this black pigment your fish is getting would rather have to do with ammonia than with pH. (as the fish would get milky skin and stick to the surface, or even die before the acidic water would burn him.)
If they said that your fish is just getting a new color, that might be the case, but to be on the safer side, check your pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels anyway (:
