gold fish & tropical fish

Can gold fish live in a tank with tropical fish?
I have Gouramis, a pleco, some glass fish, but the one I'm worried about is the black ghost knife fish.
Does any one have any idea if this would work?

Simply NO.

Those species require different waterconditions ( temperature, ( pH ), alkalinity-acidity )
Also gouramis are more agressive fish and can nipp on your goldfish long fins.
The Knifefish grows fairly large... about 30cm...

I wouldnt suggest it because when i was looking into what fish i wanted i found out that there needs are very different such as water temp, food, companionships, etc. They may also harm eachother.

No. Either just stick with the tropicals or buy separate tanks, it is that easy Smiley Pleco's and knife fish can grow quite big and knife fish and some gourami's can be aggressive. The goldfish who wouldn't be able to stick up for themselves would probably be their first target too! Plus of course the different water needs.

Plecos can eat your goldfish's slime coat. No bad intentions, but they tend to start liking the taste, so it might happen while the goldfish sleeps that the plecos can crawl up on it and simply suck on the slime coat, leading to terrible wounds and infections on your fish, just because it's not protected by the slime on some areas.

Yeah, actually a  bit of algae will grow on the goldfish's slime coat and the plecos when they grow quite large can suck on goldfish especially round body types of fish!
Also, I read where keeping plecos with discus fish are a problem too because of their body shape.  Easy to prey on! Roll Eyes
