Are both the eyes completely black or just one? Was it like that at the pet store? It could be  a birth defect or just an anomaly. If the fish can see fine and find its food , i wouldn't worry too much about it.

How are the orandas behaving? Are they actively swimming and eating?

The Orandas eye was like that at the aquarium store.  We have only had the second fish (With one black eye) for a week.  I only noticed when we returned home.  (Rookie move I know!)

I have a goldfish with a black eye, but he's a calico so it's quite common that their eyes are black due to the pigment around the face (: Does your oranda happen to have the same color? (White background with bluish hue, red spots of color and little black "sprinkles")

I don't think the tail is much to worry about, since most goldfish sold in pet stores aren't show quality goldfish some may have single fins! I have a black moor that has a single anal fin for example As long as your fish doesn't show any discomfort, it should be alright (:

Most of the fish we buy at the pet stores are breeder's culls.  Ones that the breeder has selected as having slight defects or imperfections that are not worth breeding or showing.
I also have a shubunkin with one black eye.  His one black eye is considered a fault according to standards of perfection.

Most breeders start culling thier babies very early.  They look for imperfections like missing fins, fins that didn't separate properly, one eye missing  etc.  Those fish since they are so small usually wind up as lunch for other tanks with adult fish.  Baby fish that are ok but not good color or color distribution or have other minor attributes that aren't up to standards are sold to pet shops.  Breeders will keep only the best according to the guidelines of the standard of perfection for each variety or breed.  A goldfish may have hundreds of eggs fertilized at one spawning.  So usually only the best of the best are kept for showing and future breeding.

Even if pet shop goldies are culls, I like mine a lot.  Sure Stripe's tail might be a little small, but his stripe is so cool that I feel lucky that we got him.
