New comet goldfish question

Hey all I'm new here  Smiley

Yeah I just got some new comet goldfish last night about four of them, cute little guys.
Now before you think I hope he's planning on getting a bigger tank I'm making plans to buy a used
one or a tank that's one sale.

I did lose one of my little guys from some sickness or the thought he hurt himself when it was in
the tank at walmart.  a tiny yellow spot was found under it's upper belly!  I'm going to keep a close
eye on his other 3 friends.

What he was doing the night before I gone to bed, was iching up along side of the rocks it seem.
He might of had ick but I found no white spots and he didn't have that yellow spot then.

Now back to my tank plans...  Right now my little guys are living in a 10gallon but what I could use is
some input/ advice on good tank size and how fast fish grow.  I under stand in a year they get to be
3".  I know a comet will get to be 12" it's adult size.

Yes I'm going to check the water for bad stuff soon Grin

Most reputable pet stores have an exchange policy on fish purchases. If your pet fish dies within a week or two after it was purchased , most of the time you can return it to the store and exchange it for another one. I would call ahead to make sure they will allow you to to return the dead fish though, so you don't waste a trip to the store. A lot of the times , the fish you bought was already sick at the store , so it's not your fault it died.

A general rule is you need about 20 gallons for one goldfish , an additional 10 gallons for each additional fish.

If you want a good deal on a larger tank, you can try craigslist's website for your particular area. I found a good deal there on a 29 gallon tank for my goldfish. I bought it for only 20 bucks, because the guy was in a hurry to move and had to get rid of it. It came with a filter, light hood, decorations, tank stand, and a lot of extras.  My goldfish are now pretty happy  Grin

Well I was able to exchange my comet goldfish for a new one.  The new one is of the same breed, a comet goldfish.
All four of them are happily playing together Smiley

Nice thought jaguar thanks,  I am looking into buying a bigger tank in the next few months maybe like a
100 gallon or something.  Also when I tested the water yesterday it came back fine for now.

I will do another one latter today to be sure.
