how do people send goldfish on the Internet do they put them in bowls and send them?

No they are in inflated fish bags, the bags are usually put into thermal boxes and are padded with bubble-wrap.They should also be sent next-day-delivery,which add enormously to the cost.

thanks for the info Smiley it's probably not the best idea to buy them on the Internet a lot probably die on the way

If the fish are packaged properly and sent quickly as Scriven mentioned, they will be fine, a little stressed from the journey but generally okay.
However there have been incidents where people selling fish haven't packaged sufficiently and in some cases yes, the fish have died.
