Man... that sounds hard... :/
My sister just had her jaw moved forward, so she had to have some tubes and bags connected to the sides of her jaws... the bags were supposed to be filled with blood D': And they had to exchange them, I think twice before they removed them?
In any case, that gives me shivers allover @__@
Sometimes those hospital procedures just seem so brutal.. :'D

I agree totally Nossie, some of the proceedures are very hard on the body and mind, the best Doctors I have come across are the ones who have actually been thru the proceedure... I can remember thinking while visiting some of my specialists that, man you have no idea how I feel and what I am going thru every day... here's wishing your sis a quick recovery...
Cant believe that lazy vet, lets hope karma sorts her out... nice to hear the dog is doing better...
Goldie, I so agree about being caretakers and responsible stewards of the animals on this planet... someone needs to speak up for the them.
as for the euthanasia thing, a heavy burden it is and those people that work at animal shelter's are truely are special people to deal with it all the time... and thank you all again for your thoughts, its nice to be among like minded people here... cheers

O.o... Nossie your poor sister! Ugggghh that gives me the creepies a bit...all the best to her speedy recovery.
fantailer: yes, very painful, it was like all the pain in your life you've ever experienced smashed together into one unbelievably painful proceedure...
How true Ron, it takes a special person to deal with those problems on a daily basis at the animal shelter. It takes a special person as well to be a surgeon and a nurse...they encounter people every day in pain, and do their best to try to relieve it...A giant karma to all those who work in medical fields, whether they be for people or our animal friends...

She's doing great! Everything's going according to plans, and she's eating soups, yoghurts and smoothies mostly since she can't chew for now, talking is okay too, still a bit unclear though, naturally
fantailer: Do you mean the infected discs in the spine? Or what exactly?

Fishes' spines work a lot differently than humans and other mammals' spines do. Notice how most fish have really soft and bendable bones? I don't think they can actually get infected that easily, but it's rather the skin and muscle around or the internal organs nearby that would take the hit in case a bone would go wrong (which it in the end wouldn't really do, unless the fish would get crushed somehow).
Fish are also not really relying on their body weight the way land-living creatures do, so there's not much strain put on their spines and bones, which is the common reason why they get infected in humans and other animals.
Our dog got infected because he's bred with two breeds that obviously shouldn't be crossed, so he doesn't have the strong bones of normal dachshund but the build of one, so his elongated spine can't carry the weight of his body in the middle. The dog's only 5 years old and already has grave problems like that... :/ (His mother was a mix of something, I think it was a type of spitz and something else that made her ears flop xD In any case, she was a lot bigger than his dad, so they had to breed in a ditch?!)

They.. would if people would understand anything about them!
Most are just n00bs who really just dump a fish in a bowl and imagine it to be happy...

Yeah, they don't have to be bad people but it just sucks that it seems so hard to do any research in advance about the fish :/
Everyone getting a dog or a cat borrows books and reads about it, finding out what they need, but for some reason, they imagine that a fish will live as long as it'd have water, no matter what kind of water...

It's the stereotype of fish living in the bowl that causes people not to do their homework. You're so right about that Nossie, with ANY pet one has never owned before, it is always a good idea to do research, be it a reptile, a bird, a cat or dot, a horse, a giraffe...
It may cause people to think twice about getting the fish in the first place, instead of stressing out wondering why their fish have all died when they're in a bowl.
Speaking of fish spines, some can be born with scoliosis. Like me!

Things like Elmo having a goldfish or goldfish bowls in commercials don't help.
But this is a cute one.

kingwood kim: Yes it is
But if it wouldn't be too much of a problem, make an all new post for your questions
There's a button in the upper right corner in the Health and Illness section for that purpose

Dragonii, despite the stereotypical underline, that was a pretty cute commercial!
Beautiful fins on that oranda in the video.
Yes, kingwood kim, just go to new topic in the upper right corner. There you can title your subject, describe your problem, and even attatched pictures.
