I would not recommend a bowl. But here is what I would do. If you do have a bowl add clean water to it. You can buy cheap filters(not electronic) just stick to the bowl wall and fish movement moves water and the filter cleans it. About species, any is fine. Get one male and female(make sure they are young and do not have ick, fungus and etc.) If you are not sure about fish disease. Look for medicines and on the back of the box they describe what condition it is for and use that as a reference. For pumps, I do no think one for a fish bowl would be logical. But if you want oxygen get a real plant. Also get a small ornament for it to hide in and small gravel bag(choice of color) I think this should be enough. Hope this helps.

It all depends on the wal-mart you go too. The one I went to kept the tanks very clean, there were no dead fish in there and the one that I bought has lived passed a week which never happened with the ones I bought from the wal-mart in the town I used to live in. He is now a healthy and happy little guy and I promised him if he lived a week I would buy him a castle to go into his home...
