Goldies not swimming all over the tank
« on: December 31, 2010, 12:10:44 PM »

I'm wondering if this is just me, or if your goldies do the same thing. I have a 60 gallon tank, and 85% of the time, my  little stinkers like to hang out just on the right side of the tank. They will go down and swim, to the other side, but it seems as if they spend all of their time just hanging out there. Could this be that I normally always feed them on that side of the tank?

Yep, I think you got it!
Try alternating sides when feeding.
Plus any food that falls into the gravel they will contantly pick there hoping to find a few crumbs. Smiley

LOL, Minde had good suggestions and I agree with them,  Grin Also, maybe if you changed some of the decorations around, the fishies might go and investigate. But feeding is probably the actual reason.  Smiley

It was the same with my fish when they first moved into their new big tank they picked the feeding corner to hang out xD But after a few days they started exploring the rest of their new place and today, it's awesome seeing them "scattered" everywhere in the tank being busy with their own business Wink

They'll be ready on their own soon enough to go on some small expeditions to check out the tank Smiley

Here is an update to my post. I was feeding my babies on different ends of the tank and they would get the food and then return back to their little corner. today, being so board from my no work day, thanks to the snow!, I did a 50% water change and added an additional filter (small, suitable for a 15 gallon) and today all of a sudden, they're swimming all over the place. They still go back to their corner, but it's so nice to see them actually  utilizing the full 60 gallons and not just a small corner.

On another note, I'm really wanting another one, but I promised myself I would wait until March. this is going to be a very long 2 months.  Tongue

My goldfish do the same thing so its nothing to worry about. They like to hang out on the side that i feed them on to! Switching sides really does work!

Hmmm, my fish swim all over their 75 gals, sometimes it even takes me a while to find my shubunkin because he blends in so well!  Grin

I'll alternate feeding sides too now, just so they don't develop any bad habits.  Smiley
