Hello everybody,

2 of our Neons have a very round belly I noticed today and the blue line almost the shape of a "flat V". Looks as if they want to burst every second.

Anyone ever had Neon Fry ?  Grin

But they are very similar to goldfish in their reproduction, so that shouldn't be a problem if you'd read up a bit on that! Cheesy
So you should try to protect/move the eggs out of reach of the adults, and later feed the fry specially prepared fry foods (usually sold in a "drop bottle", know what I mean?), brine shrimp nauplii that you hatch yourself (easy to do!) or homemade fry food Smiley Which is much like boiling an egg, and mixing the yolk in a teaspoon (or so) of water until there's a paste that you can add to the fry tank Cheesy But remember that the fry doesn't even have a mouth until their yolk sac has been completely absorbed, which should take about 2 days, so it's no use feeding them for that time.

If you've got lots of plants in the tank, the fry might be able to hide and survive Cheesy So you could just feed some smaller foods and they'll grab it for sure! Grin

Yeah, lots and lots of plants in both tropical tanks and hiding spots too.

This morning I discovered that we are fish grandparents: Blacky must have popped some babies. Shocked They are so tiny, tiny, tiny  Shocked  :oand they hide in the bushy hornworth and ricchia caught in between and under the Java Fern leaves, also in the ship wreck. Cool Rang hubby to bring some brine shrimp for babies before he comes home from work.
I'm just going crazy at the moment  Grin Shocked Roll Eyes

That's so nice! Smiley Our platies had a few babies too at some point, but we gave some of them away to my cousin when she was setting up her first community tank Wink

Maybe you should skip one of the species for this tank then to give room to the new babies? Wink Or would you bring them to the pet shop? Smiley

Went to the petshop and got baby food, was so exciting. The guy said if they do have lots of hiding space they should be able to survive and not being eaten by the adult ones. See what happens as we really cannot catch them as there are so many plants plus the ship wreck where they can hide inside. They also have a great camouflage colour.
Blacky is still round and Teddy is chased by Bill and Baby and getting "fatter" too.
Well, I talked to our fish guy, if they get big enough I can make arrangements.

Checked the water today, all is perfect. Will do a w/c on Saturday.

The babies are still there , some are really brave to come and have a look what's going on in the big tank world... Cheesy
I tell them to swim inside and hide and to take care, and geez they are QUICK,  wuups they are not seen...until the next time Grin.
hubby and me think we counted 5 we could see, maybe few more inside the ship... who knows? Wink

Careful what you ask for as platty frye have the ability to reproduce in about six weeks, if mom and dad are still there you'll probably see more in a couple weeks. I started out with two females and a male which just so happens to be the perfect ratio for plattys. The first batch were cute, 5 or six like mentioned here, the second batch was twice that and the third batch exceeded 60 frye. By that time the first batch had started reproducing and six weeks later I had well over 300 fry. It was at that point that I did the math and learned that at the six month mark I would have over 1.5 million fish,... So I got rid of the plattys. Sad All but two anyway.

Yes, I read  about it... funny thing is we bought all our platies out of the "male" tank ROFLMAO... finding out that Blacky and Teddy are females, hahahaha Cheesy

Hahahahaha, we got batch number 3 now, but we can trade them back in where we bought the adult ones from, lol. We'll keep the most beautiful ones though Grin
It's not millions, lol, they are born in the big tank, I try to save those I can see and catch in the fry tank. Some will be real beauties.

About changing genders, live bearers do from time to time, especially swordtails, the females that is Smiley
And clown fish are always hatched as males but grow up to be mature females in time! Funny enough Wink

Nature is so amazing.
Our tiny babies, they are smaller than 1 cm, but you can see details like the fins and already some colouring, like YELLOW she is just like her mother Ginger: a Golden Comet Platy with those tiny black edges on her tailfin and you can see she is a girl too. You can see the pupils and the iris, and the little fins just going like nobody's business.
I just feel so happy inside, like glowing to experience all those little wonders.  Cheesy  Shocked  Wink

Girls, those fish just fascinate me and espwecially the fry when you first see them you cannot stop wondering.
Also how clever they are hiding to protect themselves, etc.
