My fish Sonorus hates her picture being taken. She goes out of her way to swim in circles really really fast so I cant get a decent shot of her. Now I have to take a picture really quikly and get her when she turns around or come up from undereath her... friggin fish... -facepalm-

When I walk into the room where the fish tank is and start talking, all my goldfish start a swimming frenzy.  They can be totally quiet and when they hear me they all swim to the surface and start begging for me to come over and give them food!  "Feed Me! Feed Me!" they seem to be saying.  It only happens when I walk in the room and start talking.  If anyone else is here and walks in the room and starts talking they totally ignore them and go about their normal fishy business.  I just think it's kind of funny and people are amazed that my goldfish recognize my voice.

How do you're fish get so smart?!?!?!?!?! I mean, I'm good to my fish, and she hates me i think... Oh well. I saw one fish who was trained to play soccer... That was cute. That and I saw an oranda at the fish store with a head-puff that fell ever onto one side.. it was freaking HUGE!

I don't know but I think maybe fish are more intelligent than we think!  Just because they don't speak our language doesn't mean that they don't want to try and communicate with us somehow.

Mine are very used to both mine and my fiance's voices, and they come to the glass right away to cuddle a bit when we come home from somewhere (: Cream has lots of stories to tell, always! She looks just like she's talking : D
Other than that, they tend to be staring at us a whole lot, especially one, that we sometimes call "Hover Fish". He stops just by the glass and gives us the evil eye d:

I had a funny moment yesterday.  The tank is right by the kitchen, and whenever the fish see me leave with something to eat or drink, they get excited.  I usually say something like "Silly fishies.  Fishies don't like (toast, lemonade, Thai food, cherry cola, etc.)!"  Then yesterday, I came out with a glass of water...
Me: Silly fishies.  Fishies don't like wa-
I looked at my glass.  I looked at them.
They looked hopefully back.
Me: "...um, well...you've got your own!" Smiley

That was very cute!   Cheesy  Aren't our fish wonderful??  What would we do without them!
I know they keep me sane! LOL! Wink
In fact, come to think about it my husband, who is NOT a fish person at all...(frankly he just doesn't get it),
says: "Why do you need another fish"  whenever I buy a new one"...My response is: "Cheaper than therapy"!  Grin

Yea apparently just watching fish is supposed to lower blood pressure and keep you calmer. I think it works, as long as your fish arent doing something messeed up.

No, mine do that too (: Although, it's usually my fiance playing with them this way. He's moving his fingers a few inches from the glass and my fishies follow! Except for the calico one, he's too hardcore to play d:
I do it too occasionally while talking to them and cuddling (: But if you meant chasing finger as in, putting it into the tank, I'd rather avoid it d: (Although, my mom's big goldfish used to chew my fingertips and it tickled all the way down to my toes!)

yea Sonorus is a big fan of my finger wiggling... unless shes hungry. So thats when I know to give her a snack if its not her supper time yet, or just when to give her her supper. My new fishy is just still getting used to me. He knows I feed him, so thats a start. Smiley

My fishies love that, too.  I do this thing called "tickle the fish" where I move my finger in a tickling motion against the glass right over the fish.  They love it!  They wiggle happily when I do it, like they're actually being tickled.

So cute C': I don't know if I mentioned this yet, but my fish use to go on little expeditions together in the tank whenever I get them something new, like a plant or just a few pebbles (didn't buy any for a while now, it's nice as it is C: ). They're swimming all three together around several times, passing by the new accessories. Inspecting every little part of it. Last time I got that nice plant from my mom's aquarium they were spending lots of time looking at it and tasting it (:

They also tend to have little races together Wink My calico one is a bit of a cheater on that one... C:

Mahaha! xD For how long are you gonna let the tank mature? Or rather, for how long has it been standing there?
I think it's been a couple of days since you mentioned that you got your new fishie and tank! (: Isn't it time to put them there soon?

Some people will put fish in a newly set up tank after 24 hours but it is less stressful to the fish if you wait until the beneficial bacterial has had a chance to establish in the new tank and the nitrogen cycle completes.  You can speed this cycle up by jump starting with beneficial bacteria, adding it directly to the tank, gravel bed and filter.  I also use, water and gravel and sometimes even filter media from an established tank, when starting up a new tank.  Usually after two weeks or sometimes more, there is enough bacteria established for it to convert the large amount of ammonia into nitrites.
Once I see zero ammonia and zero nitrites and a bit of nitrates starting to appear on tests I go ahead and add a couple of small fish or 1 larger one and then keep checking the water to make sure none of the ammonia or nitrites start to spike.
If you add fish too soon after setting up a new tank you have a higher chance of losing them to "new tank syndrome" or weaking them to the point where they get ill from some other illness.

Well I'm letting it cycle for a week, then im gonna keep my new fishy out of the tank for a little bit because I want to make sure that he didnt get sick whilst I was gone.. Meanwhile I'll throw Sonorus in there and see how she does. I mean, I'll throw her in gradually... but otherwise, she'll be in there. Thats what I'm most worried about.. is that she'll do what she did for the other tank and just kinda sink to the bottom.

"Throw her in gradually" haha Cheesy

I knew about this condition, and to speed the cycling up by adding bacteria from an established tank, but I didn't know you needed to let it stand for this long! Now I know that for when I'll be getting my bigger tank C:
