Hello everyone

First of all...thank you all for your help.  I finally got my 50 gallon set up and running.

Here's a bit of an update....I had Bertie with 3 small applesnails in a 16 gallon.  I bought the 50 gallon set up and in the meantime I stopped at petco.  They had gotten a delivery in and I saw a goldfish I couldn't pass up.  A black and orange telescopic. So home It went and into the 16 gallon he was added.

At this point I got the 50 gallon set with water and started cycling.  I was lucky...only 2 weeks for a fish less cycle.  In the meantime I was doing daily water changes on the 16 gallon....nitrates keep shooting up.  Truthfully I don't know how people keep goldfish in tiny tanks.  Way too much work.

So I successful moved my fish crew and everyone is wonderful. Bertie is big - about 4 inches long and very round. Fray is about 3.5 inches and growing.  I saw a big difference in them once they got into the long tank. 

I've planted the tank. Nothing fancy. Swords. Crypts. Java fern. Loving it all very much.

So here's the problem. There was only one place to put the tank in my living....across from a window that gets dirrect sun light into the tank.  I've been having a problem with green fuzzy algae.  I've been thinking of adding something to eat it but not sure about stocking size or what would work with my goldies. Any suggestions?

Btw. I found the cure for multiple tank syndrome. Changing 25 gallons of water every week.

I would also vote for bristlenoses, they've kept my tank clean for over a year now
Nothing special about them except that they breed very readily, mine have had babies twice already! You don't need to worry too much either if there's any excess flakes or something that the goldfish can't find, these will be happy to clean it up and they do need some different kinds of food than just algae as well.
Driftwood is important when having bristlenoses, they like to rasp their teeth on it. I have both Mopani and bogwood in my tank and both are fine to have, I prefer the Mopani because it's easier to prepare (ie. doesn't make the water yellow if you haven't soaked it enough before-hand) and it has a more gnarly and rounded set of shapes to it that are safer for the goldfish compared to the sharp edges of bogwood.

If there ever did come a time, of there being less algae, you can always get algae wafers 
I believe they also like veg as well? I've heard of people feeding them courgettes? Maybe one of the others here can confirm that!

I love bristlenoses, my Dad used to have two of them, when Lucky's tank was a tropical set up  But I think they do okay in cooler temperatures, do you have a heater for your tank? It might be useful in winter months for them.

Thanks Scrivens.....I do believe it's fuzzy algae.  It looks like the picture, except not as long.  Much shorter fibers.  But it covers the whole leave and it's fairly easy to remove. 

I've cut down on my lighting hours - 4 on 4 off 4 on 4 off - controlled by a timer. I increased my internal water circulation with a pond pump.  I started dosing every other day with CO2 booster and increased ferts (these two steps cut back on the amount of algae overall). 

I have no problems with algae and cleaning...it's my plants.  The leaves are fragile and rip after being rubbed.

Any suggestions? Bristlenose the best way to control it?  UV light?  What's the wisdom of the pros?

You could try using Tetra Easy Balance, although primarily an ion-exchange resin which renders nitrates "safe", it also reduces phosphates meaning a reduction in algae growth.

I'd try bristlenoses and see how you get on
