Help! My Male Oranda will NOT stop spraying milt all over the tank!

My male oranda will not stop spraying his milt all over the tank. We have no idea how to prevent him from doing this. We clean the tank for him to just spray all over again. Its so dense and just destroys the tank and stops all filter function. Does anyone know why he would be doing this and how we can make it stop? Shocked

Is there a female in the tank?  I have never heard of milt stopping a filter up!?! Huh

yes, i do have a female in the tank. He is dumping out tons of it! it seems sooo unatural for it all to be coming out of him!

perhaps the fish is aroused by something in the tank? can fish do that? like, maybe this fish really wants to hook up with a plant or something... My two fish are girls so id never know.

Well the last idea sounds good. I know he likes Timmi(the female fish of the tank) but she is the only other thing in the tank. We don't have any decorations or plants because they all get covered by his milt. We are just not sure what is setting him off.. But it's trashing their tank every time we get it clean.. Im really beginning to get shocked that no one has heard of this problem. We can't seem to find ANYONE that has had this problem with their fish before...

truthfully, i think this is interesting. im wondering if there's away to spay or neuter your fish... I doubt it, but its an idea. Or if fish go into heat? that'd be interesting... Goldgish habits never cease to amaze me. Oh i know! your fish really really really wants to be a daddy! (Eliminate all variables and you will eventually get the right answer Wink )

Try putting the female in a different tank, so he'll stop getting "excited."  Smiley

unfortunately..moving timmi isn't really an option...i know the temperature can set fish off...does anyone know what temp that is? the tank usually stays around 71 or 72 degrees...

ah crap! tempurature! I knew that! Why didnt I think of that?! -facepalm- is 71 to 72 degrees warmer or cooler than room temperature??? Cause my fish ins in a little cooler than room temp.. mind, shes a girl.. ill look into that... this goldfish habit thing will make a great essay..

we don't have the space to, we have an extra tank, we just have no where to set it up! And those two are awfully close, i'd hate to separate them...
