Hi everybody
« on: November 17, 2010, 01:24:12 PM »

Hi guys
My name is shane and I live in south west england [uk]
I love goldfish and have always had fish
recently my fish died and I aim to get some more before xmas, 2 fancy goldies
I think I will use the tank I have - these are actually pond fish so they are much bigger compared to the tank to the ones I will be getting [this was taken at the end of their lives]

Hi Shane,
Welcome to the forum.
Your tank is way too small for those big goldfish and a pleco!!! Sad
It makes me sad to see such beautiful fish in such cramped conditions. Cry

How big is your tank? Smiley
We really only recommend 1 fancy goldfish per 10 u.s gallons.
You will need a good filter and an air bubbler of some kind too. Smiley

The fish are all really beautiful! And I love that ornament you have there on the left Smiley
But I don't know about the tank, it really looks small, the goldfish can barely turn in there Undecided Not to mention that there are three of them...
How big exactly is the tank? An adult goldfish needs 40 liters minimum per fish, so unless that's an 80-100 liter tank, you really shouldn't cram two goldfish in there. Much less three!! (And these look much like commons, which grow bigger than fancy goldfish and therefore need more space)

Hi Fruitloop and welcome to the forum Smiley Your tank looks similar to mine only taller and I'm guessing it is either 15 or 20 gallons? If you plan on putting 2 fancies in it, it may not be enough room. So sorry to hear you lost your fish in the photo, did they all pass? Right now I have a 2 yr. old Ryukin goldfish in a 10 gallon tank and I have had to add a second power filter to keep up with the waste that is produced by this single beauty of mine. I've since bought another 27 gallon that is currenlty cycling so I can transfer him and get him a tank mate. 2 will be the limit in the 27 gallon so do look into getting an aquarium at least this size so they can live a long happy life Smiley Best regards from Canada!

Hi fruitloop,
welcome to the forum from Australia.

Sorry to hear your fish passed away. Two fancys in 30 gal should be fine, but no more, as goldfish will need min 10 gal per fish... like already mentioned before.

Enjoy this little community on here, great people ...I learned a lot

fruitloop: Yes, I noticed the pleco, but I was talking about the goldfish alone, so imagine that it's even worse with the little pleco around Grin

Either way, I still didn't get an answer on how big the tank is...?

well if that is a 30 gallon why would you say you are going to buy a 30 gallon?
I'm confused.
With those big fish in there it looks more like it is a 20 gallon... Smiley

I'd really bet my money on a 20 gallon as well. If you remember it being a 30, I suggest measuring the length, height and depth of the tank yourself and calculate the size on your own.

Maybe the friend overfed the fish or something? Very common unfortunately |: You probably know how fatal polluted water can be.
