It's ba-ack!
« on: August 07, 2011, 04:13:51 AM »

Hello, my fish-mates Grin,

You may recall I had an issue with some goldies a month or 2 ago. Well, whatever 'it' was (that manifested a pale, fluffy swelling on fins and torso), it is back with a vengeance  Angry. One of the two fish I treated last time has a sizeable outbreak on his crown and some spots on his tail fin. The other, a pink goldfish, has similar marks but not so bad, on his tail fins.

I've isolated them in a heated, 50 litre holding tank  Wink and thrown in some general anti-fungul treatment, a little salt, and 4 teaspoons of bi-carb soda. I don't think they like the new set up much but they are still uop and about. Only put them in today when I realised.

The Ph is up (7.3-7.5) and I can't seem to lower it. Is it the bi-carb?

Any further advice will be most welcome.

In anticipation  Roll Eyes,

Bigbob.

It's definitely the bi-carb, (That's baking soda right? D: ) that's used to raise the pH level. If you're not comfortable with it (Or more importantly, your fish aren't), I'd suggest you stop adding it completely and just monitor water quality and add the medicines when needed.

Do you have a microscope? Or another way to get a sure result on what this infection is?
Some people bring samples of their fishes' slime coat to a lab to get it tested, I don't know what kind of lab to do that but... :/ You could ask around at vets and pet shops maybe?
If it came back, I doubt the previous treatment was effective, and you need to figure out the exact reason as to why the fish are sick and then treat them correctly.

Thanks Nossie,
Alas, my fishy mates have crossed over the great divide. Strangely, the one that appeared to be on the mend curled up his toes first, and was followed by his buddy. I was sad to see them go.  Cry
