Well the oldest goldfish known lived for over 40 years in an aquarium of sort. So given a proper diet and environment , they can have a very long lifespan.
Most goldfish will only grow to about 5-8 inches (excluding the tail) , so this probably what you should expect of your goldfish.

My biggest black Moor was too large to flush. I buried him under a potted plant and watched it flourish the next couple of years or so. Also, he lived around 5 - 6 years or so. I have got to get myself another tank and more fishies!!
