That's pretty strange that they don't have plugs o_o
Will you be able to fix that yourself??

Oh I should have explained, because my dad had sooo much equipment, internal filter/under gravel filter/heater/airpump/lights, he had this black box, which he wired everything into, so he only needed one power socket for it all.
Which meant he took all the plugs off his equipment.
There are a few plugs in the bag of wonders which I can use, so no worries =)
Someone mentioned to use a stanley knife to cut the insulation, only need to take off around 5mm - 10mm so not much -which I'm currently doing- and I've looked up on Google which wire screws into which bit, so should be fairly straightforward! I also happen to have screw drivers lying around that I randomly brought at some point a year ago, so they are definitely proving to be useful now!
Learning something new every day!
So my plan is to wire up the light and make sure that works, then I can move on to playing with timer.
Although I must admit sat here with screwdrivers, metal ruler, stanley knife and doing things with plugs, makes me feel rather manly
[Edit]
And after all that it didn't work
Now I'm not sure if the fuse in the plug is wrong, the light unit is broken or the light tube is broken XD Maybe all three!! Haha oh dear...

Dragonii- what do you think of the Fluval Fx5? It gets great reviews on amazon...or would you still recommend Aquatop?

the Fx5 is a great filter.... but it's also like $220. I have a couple of friends that use them on 300+ gallon tanks. Honestly, I would prefer to buy two Aquatops. lol
I personally have two canisters on my 150 gallon tank. One is an Aquatop, the other is a magnum 350.
I don't see any issues with the fx5, if you don't mind paying for it, it's a big powerful filter.
How big is your tank again?

125 gallon. I was thinking the Fx5 and my fluval 205 on that tank, or possibly the mag 350.

Yes, I have Fluval 205, magnum 350, aquaclear 110 and various smaller filters. I want to buy another filter and have enough to run 125, 55, 55.

If you would be ok running the Mag on the 125 just do what I did, run an Aquatop 500 packed full of bio media and the Mag with a basket full of carbon or the micron filter. It works great.
I think about replacing the Mag with an Aquatop someday but it's not really needed.

Hmm that's only 875gph. Is that enough? I thought GPH should equal 10x the tank volume...?

Give or take. It's really just a guideline. Some filters do a better job than others so they may turn less water but still be better.
If you feel that it's not enough you could always replace the Mag with another Aquatop. That would give you 1050.
